The Institute of Modern Languages (IML) at San Jorge University is a multi-disciplinary center whose mission is to boost, supervise, and coordinate foreign language learning and certification for the university community. The ILM is located on the ground floor of the Student Building on the Villanueva de Gállego Campus.
Our team is multicultural and multilingual with many years of international language teaching experience. Our method is based on a practical communicative approach, adapted to each student's needs. We foster dynamic and collaborative learning, guided by teachers whose passion inspires our student body to reach their linguistic goals.
To foster internationalization and multilingualism, the ILM offers English for Specific Purposes (or ESP) in all the university's bachelor's programs. Thus, our students develop the academic and professional communication skills appropriate for their discipline. The ILM also coordinates the CLIL program (Content and Language Integrated Learning), offering training and support to teaching staff of a variety of subject areas who incorporate the English language into their teaching.
Our “Language and Communication”research group works in the field of applied linguistics with a special focus on foreign language teaching and learning. Our primary lines of research are language for specific purposes, intervention in language classrooms, CLIL approach, discourse analysis, with detailed study of academic and professional language, paying special attention to the legal and healthcare fields, as well as sharing know-how in society. We also focus on second language acquisition, cognitive linguistics, corpus linguistics, and construction grammar.
We are members of the Higher Language Teaching Centers (ACLES) and the European Confederation of Language Centres in Higher Education (CercleS).
